SAMPLE

Sally OR Mike:
I don't mean to be forward or rude, but I'm on this HAL because I'm a total newbie here and need help to understand the process of hatching and incubating eggs. My question above has sat on the board over 24-hours and I'm not sure anyone has yet to comment on what may or may not be happening with the air cells of my eggs. Is there any one who can please help me with my question?

I'm worried that some of my eggs candled with an air cell space of almost 50% ~ IS THAT BAD?

Is is not usually a good sign, especially if it is before day 15. It can still be okay and hatch, the chicks will be small though. I would personally increase the humidity a bit, but also for first time hatching it's good to look for a slightly less busy thread than a sponsored hatch along as posts are easy to miss.

The best way to get eggs to hatch well vary depending on where you are, and what type of incubator you have. If it's a brinsea then add lots more humidity. If it's an LG, leahery, or Chinese incubator add a little bit more humidity.

Oh, okay. That seems like a good idea. How do I tag them? And thank you so much for replying to me. If you'll read my feed with Pyxis, it'll tell you what may have likely happened. Don't laugh too loud... LOL!!
Idk if you saw that post someone else made about tagging someone but if not here goes. I'm on mobile so I push the @ button in the bar above the reply box and then type their user name in the pop up box. If you're on a computer you type @ and then their user name and it should work
I am setting duck eggs from Chaos as well as mine own this week! And he will be setting too, and Mike has eggs set too! :weee HS is gonna have to sell some of her whites lol!! although she lost the little little babies ughhh :yesss: Awww dont be disappointed!!! :hugs look at those littles!! so sweet!! humidity was that high for the duration? you calibrated thermo and hygros? see link below

no you should not cry Alissa!! :hugs I know you have been through some hard stuff, this is not worth tearing yer beautiful face sweets!!!!! What is a cinny Queen by the way? got pics @chickendreams24 :clap :clap GO BABIES!!!!!! Pics when dry!! I lover yer babies!! @Cynthia12 I cant wait to see them!!! @sdubski dont forget us!!
Hi Sally and thanks Love I'm trying not to be too upset unfortunately my buff silkie hit me really really hard. She was one of the sweetest and one of our favorite birds in the flock. Ginger all winter would chase me back to the house no matter how cold it was wanting more loving even over a three foot icy drift. Anyone ever seen a silkie scale a three foot drift? I miss her and I'm bummed about the others too. I know it's nature but I'm pretty livid about this predator. There are more than enough other small rodents, ground squirrels, rabbits, ground hogs, field mice, coons(it was not a coon), etc etc and it takes my birds ugh I hope we can find out what it is. It tried to come back last night but I didn't get to see it and the flock was locked up. Apparently it's pretty darned fat at this point DH2B saw it but of course it spooked before he got a good look. Again it looked silver and very big around man that thing can run whater it is but it's small, low to the ground. Man I hope it's something we can shoot as I don't want the DNR to have to relocate a known flock killer. It wonderful seeing all the babies and I love it we're totally overrun lol also we have eggs in the incubator due in June too so we need a June Hatch-a-long lol. Is there going to be a July Hatch-a-long? A cinnamon Queen is a red sexlink from cackle hatchery they have several kinds and DH2B has read good things and wanted to try them out. Odd since almost our entire flock is heritage breeds except the EE and 4 isa browns from last year

I have been told probably not until Halloween

Everyone in the brooder! The Russian Orloffs are so tiny and cute!

@mlm Mike I candled the two unpipped eggs and didn't look promising. Well give it till morning then clean out the incubator.

@mlm Mike

I pulled the unhatched eggs and cleaned the incubator this morning. The Lavender Orpington was fully developed, but dead and had not absorbed the yolk. The FBCM was about an inch and a half long, so must have died a while ago.

Bummer, at least you had a good hatch overall. Sorry for the delayed response.

Day 21, no pips in the incubator & haven't seen any chicks under the broody. I guess it would be bad if I lift up the broody to look underneath, lol. I am feeling very impatient though!

The golden comet and isa browns are red sex links too, right? Depends on the hatchery and parent stock i presume? Same with red stars and such i think. I think some are the same birds different names and others use different breeds for the parents?? Sorry about the predator though and loss of your birds :( I second Sally's trail cam suggestion. Could it be a fisher cat or even maybe a fox? I don't know mucb about either but around here we only have the red foxes but did have one silver one for a while. Same species just silver. Haven't seen him in a long time. And depending on where you are you could maybe have artic foxes too and they'd be probably going into summer coat, brownish silverish. Or could even potentially be a small coyote?? They're usually more tan though. I'd look into a fisher cat. You don't think it was a possum or skunk or anything either? Though they're not exactly vicious predators. Fishers are nasty little things
