Mislabeled Tractor Supply/Feed Store Chicks

We all know Tractor Supply is notorious for mislabeling their chicks. However, I got the idea for this thread today when I encountered perhaps the worst case of mislabeling I have ever seen.

I stopped in to grab some feed and peeked in the chick bins, and immediately some of the birds caught my eye. So I asked to buy a couple of the "leghorns" they had.

This is what I bought:

Broad breasted white turkey poults. Not only was the breed wrong, but the species too! In the past I've bought some chicks from them that were labeled pretty wrong, such as red sex links labeled as silver laced wyandottes, but this takes the cake.

Oh, and as a bonus, since they require you to buy at least six birds, I picked out four dominiques to fill out the purchase. Except when I got home and looked at them closely, I realized they had single combs. So they're not dominiques. 0 for 2, Tractor Supply. The moral of this story is, when you're buying chicks from Tractor Supply, be careful that you're getting what they say you're getting.

Who else has bought chicks that were mislabeled? What were they labeled as, and what did they end up being?

Glad you knew what you were looking at, but I can only imagine what the reaction of other customers will be when they find that their "chicken" gobbles!

My feed store is good about keeping an eye on the chick area to make sure people aren't grabbing at them or moving them around, so no mislabeling so far on chicks, though the started pullets/cockerels area is a whole other issue, as they have all the birds running around together.

Amazing fail, except that it's TSC, with employees who aren't trained, unless they already know what they're looking at. But maybe in time for holiday turkey? Although with only two, they might be named, and then be pets...

Well let's see, about every Ameracauna that TSC ever sold.....

Only mishap I've had was a buff Orpington slipped in with my last batch of Rangers. Traded her for a pair of roosters....

We only buy meatbirds from them anymore...and only if nothing else local is available.

There is an old saying; NEVER EVER buy day old chicks from TSC if you are going to be bothered that they are the wrong breed, gender, or species!!

Though I don't live in America, over here we have Farmers WareHouse and Kirkwoods, and I don't even know if they sell day old chicks.

That is plain ridiculous!!

I fall for the chicks at TSC sometimes, especially those closeout sales, and I do know what I'm looking at, usually. And I don't have high expectations there, either.
It's an issue with individual regional stores, where they get their chicks, and what the corporate office plans for them.
