Question about Hebrew 7 post above, was Melchizedek in Hebrews 7 Genesis 14 and Psalm 110, Jesus Christ?
your answer is exactly what I thought for decades, what was pointed out to me (on Thursday evening) was the description of Melchizedek in Hebrews 7:2-3 (in bold below). How can a man (priest), who would be a type for Jesus to copy, have no father or mother or birthday? No. It is an example of a "type" of Christ, a comparison per se, an "order".... It was to emphasize the fact that the soon to be Levitical priesthood would not be sufficient in the long run... Melchizedek having "no father or mother, etc" is symbolic of the fact that the Levitical.priesthoid was dependent on being born into the tribe of priesthood, Levi, in order to even be a priest. And those priests' "ordainment" only lasted as long as they were alive, to pass it on. Hence, human priesthood would have beginnings and ends dependent entirely on the lifetime of each specific priest.
Jesus' priesthood and kingship, like Melchizedek, would be one with no beginning and no end because it's not dependent on the authority of Levitical priesthood and birthright, it comes from the authority of God Almighty himself, unending and completely sufficient for eternity.

Hebrews 7 New American Standard Bible (NASB)
7:1 For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he was returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, 2 to whom also Abraham apportioned a tenth part of all the spoils, was first of all, by the translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then also king of Salem, which is king of peace. 3 Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.
