Putting a chicken down without holding legs?

I used this article for instruction on the topic, but instead of holding the bird by the legs I use my left arm to hold it normally, around the keel area. I find that restraining the bird against my chest in that manner gives me a bit of a better angle.

I've read of using starter fluid in an airtight box. It supposedly helps them pass peacefully but I've never had to do it myself.

I cannot put my own birds down so I always take them to my vet and he does cervical dislocation. I am a softy when it comes to that and it breaks my heart.My vet is not an aviary vet but he does have his own chickens so he knows how to take care of them.

Yes and no, I managed to do it quickly but I bawled like a baby and made more of a mess than expected because I prepared but not well enough. Lol, so as smoothly as could be hoped.
