These 2 (I got 3 out of 8 looking like this) had small white patch under chin now gone at 7 weeks. Hens were all barred rock, rooster was a blue something(?). The 3 have dark tops to their feet, small yellow combs, smaller than the other barred rock chicks. I know I have at least 2 roosters in this group, I know that will become obvious soon. Do you think these are black barred rocks?

"Barred" means they have white lines (bars) on the feathers. A bird with no white bars on the feathers is not "barred."

"Rock" is a breed of chicken (full name, "Plymouth Rock"). They can come in many colors: Barred Rock, White Rock, Buff Rock, Partridge Rock, Columbian Rock, and others.

I agree with the previous poster that you have a sex-linked cross, where the sons show white barring (inherited from their Barred Rock mothers) and the daughters do not. So you have black chicks and barred chicks, but none of the chicks are actually Rocks (because only one parent was a Rock and the other parent was not the same breed.)

Ok, I asked the gal I got them from, the rooster is a Blue Andalusian (he is gorgeous!), one of the hens is too. That is too bad all the barred chicks are males, I really can only keep one rooster. I have 5 hens and adding this group of 3 black ones, 1 rooster is plenty.
