Trader Joe’s Fertile Eggs

Keeping temps around 40 degrees during storage does increase the percentage of hens from 50% expected to just shy of 55%. Near 60 degrees, it goes back to normal. This is an easily Googleable study for the curious. Personally, I'm sure being cold probably doesn't help them live, so if you give up four eggs that could have been hens for a slight chance at increased hen output, you probably played the math wrong anyway.

For those that wanted an update on the Trader Joe’s chickens. Of the 8 that hatched 1 had splayed legs and despite our best efforts ended up passing. 2 other chicks passed randomly days after hatch. 5 made it to the coop (2 Roos and 3 pullets) one of the Roos succumbed to what I suspect was coccidiosis. The rest were treated. These are the remaining 4.
