What made this hole?

My guess would be a rat. If you have a game camera, put it up and probably you will solve the mystery. Most likely a hose down the hole won't work. I have tried it before with no luck.

I had rat bait come up missing. I had it tucked away so nothing could get to it but this critter did. Every day I would go down to the barn and find whole chunks of rat bait gone so I put up a game camera. I found out after to some research they are immune to rat poison.

Looks like a rat hole or ground squirrel to me too.

are ground squirrels out in the daytime or at night? How far down do they tunnel? I,m thinking I can maybe dig down and completely destroy the nest.

Chipmunk is a possibility.
Hognose snake is another possibility. They use their upturned snouts to dig burrows.
