How big of a run for 10-12 chickens?

Hey TxChick, how's your progress coming on your coop?

Ha.... No I haven't finished. I actually haven't been able to work on it weeks. I've been trying to figure out the build of the run and finally got all my supplies picked up this weekend.
I've also been busy with new chicks and just finished my hatch. My hatch rate was horrible. Like 6/28. There are still 22 eggs in the bator. My last hatch was at 3pm today, on day 24 with no other pips. I'll candle tomorrow and see where I stand.
I swore I wasn't going to stress over the thing, yeah right!

Hoping to get back to build this week or next week.
Thanks for asking...Made me smile :)

Your fans miss you! Sorry for the lack of success on the hatch! I haven't gotten into hatching yet, my kids aren't to the point if laying yet

It's funny because I only decided to do a hatch for one breed that I couldn't find available. The bielefelders. Well I ordered those eggs..and well then "had to" full up the bator. What a waste it would have been for only 6 eggs? Of those "original" 6 (actually got 3 extras- so 9) 3 went into lock down and were some of the 1st ones to hatch. 2 roos and a pullet. I'll keep one of each and rehome the 2nd roo. So I guess you could say it was a successful hatch, since I got what I originally wanted to begin with...lol

I have an 8x8 coop and 16 chickens. We haven't built the run yet because I can't decide on the size. Can someone help? Here is a picture of the coop and our space.

Well I'm a newby...but the way I was told to figure it is to figure the square footage of the coop minus the unusable areas for walking ie nesting boxes etc. The coop should have 1.5-2 square feet per chicken. Then the run should have 5 -10 square feet per chicken (smaller measurements for smaller weight breed birds and larger for the meat/layer larger breeds), but keep in mind that the more space they have in the run the happier the chickens will be! The roosts in the coop need to have 1=1.5 feet per bird.
