The Bantam Tractor.
So the reason for this coop/chicken tractor is that I wanted a small easy to move coop for Japanese bantams. I believe it would be good for any bantam's needs especially those with feathered feet or very low to the ground and hard to keep clean.
The design!
I wanted it to...
Hi! So, I am new to the backyard chicken life, but so far so good. I have 4 hens, raised from chicks. They haven’t started laying yet. I have built an 11’ x 7’ run*, and they have been in living there since gaining their feathers. So far, they’ve been in there for almost two months. Of course, I...
Hello, I hope this article isn't too confusing for anyone. I am new to the chicken world. When I decided to get a few chickens, I knew what i wanted. It was much earlier in the year. I couldn't find a coop that was good enough, all the reviews were terrible and the coops fell apart in a year...
Hi everyone! First time chicken owner here.
I have a flock of 4 at about 3 months old. I’ve had them since they were two weeks old. I’ve handled them daily. I have a silkie in this flock and since day one she has been petrified of me. She’s also... really dumb. She takes forever to figure out...
I cannot find videos, plans or any info on it but I would love to make it myself. My pet chicken no longer has it on their website either. Do you have plans or have you made it and can help a fellow chickener out?
I have a coop and run for my chickens, but I made a tractor so we can move them around the yard on good days and when we want to get in the coop and clean. But they don't know what the heck it is, and I don't know how to make them go in it. I am afraid to let them wander our yard because of the...
When can I keep Cornish x in tractor 24/7 ? With Cornish x when is this possible? Do I need to make a box to lock them in at night? Or just tractor....will have one end Closed in with protection from elements.
Hi! We're new to chickens (we have a dozen ten-day-old Rhode Island Reds in a kiddie pool brooder). The kids (10 & 13) and I are trying to plan for a chicken tractor or two and a coop. We'll probably start by building a chicken tractor this week, working our way up to the coop. I have good basic...
I need to make a chicken tractor with coop out of something light. We started to do one in wood and it’s too heavy even though small. I’m thinking PVC but wondering how to attach hardware cloth to it. We have eagles and hawks as well as coyotes. Also our property is sloped. Any build hints to...
Every chicken tractor that my husband and I looked at on YouTube, various websites, and poultry supply operations were bulky, heavy, small and in my opinion, seemed kind of lacking in many ways.
We have ten girls, have no landscaping at all right now and lots of Red-Tailed Hawks that loom above...
Hello to all at BYC,
As mentioned in my intro, my name is Jon and I live in the foothills of East TN. 8 weeks ago we got 3 Rhode Island Reds and 3 Black Jersey Giants. During these past 8 weeks, I built the chicken tractor pictured below. Its definitely far from perfect and I'd do a few...
Hi folks! I'm looking for some thoughtful advise. My husband & I are building a mobile coop for our forthcoming hens. They're arriving in mid-april as chicks from mcmurray hatchery. We have just under an acre, and plan on moving the coop daily or every other day, and hopefully we can let them...
This wouldn't have been possible without the sharing of knowledge across communities from the BYC and youtube. Just wanted to pay it forward and provide
buildout for anyone who would like to build one.
Specs:
18ft x 8ft coop
Food:
(2) 80lb gravity feeders
Last up to 10 days w/ 160 chickens...
My wife has always wanted to raise chickens so last year when an opportunity to purchase a home with 2 acres came along we jumped on it. We also had a pole barn constructed which left us with plenty of scrap lumber and metal panels. At first I wasn't fully convinced that I could build this...
Hello all,
My name is Joanna and I’m new to chickens and country living since 2017.
From suburbia Greenville to NYC and then to rural Greenville I’ve finally found a slower pace once I get home and I love it!
So chickens, brand new to them. Bought 4 Amberlink laying hens at 6 months old from...
We spent the morning putting up the fence for the ladies (Lavender, Peregrine, Coco, and Coco. No, I didn’t name the chickens). It’s a cool, movable fence that we got from a company called Omlet (if you’re interested, just Google “Omlet movable fence” for more info). We’ve had the fence for...
HI there! Brand new here :) We live outside of DC and have to pay a heft $450 fee to get a chicken permit :( BUT if we can "build a plan" for our yard, we are willing to do it.
First:4 kids, 1 dog. Not a big yard. Fenced in. We want the chickens to work the yard permaculture style for our...
