It happens on occasion. Actually what happened was she delayed laying the first egg...for whatever reason( being harrassed, uncomfortable with her surroundings, etc. Chickens can not lay 2 eggs in a 24 hour period. It takes approximately 25 to 26 hours for the ovum to be excreted and pass through the various stages of egg development. At the time she was going to lay, she delayed laying, this allowed for another ovum to be released, and start it's way on its journey. Probably laid the first egg early in the morning and then layed the other in the afternoon. It gives the appearance of laying 2 eggs in the same day! HTH
