I have a 10 week old Pekin bantam roo who has feathered very strangely, and I haven’t ever seen or heard of anything similar so I’m reaching out to the collective knowledge of the forum
He has had these weird feathers since he first got wing tips at a week old, so I doubt it’s due to a disease
It looks and feels like he has silked feathers on one half of his body, but his wing feathers on one side never properly formed, and he can’t fly
So does anyone know what this is, what could have caused it, has anyone seen it before, and will he feather out normal when he molts?
I’ve attached pictures of him and his weird feathers
In case it means anything he’s all white with a few random barred feathers, sold as purebred

In one of my color genetic books it's mentioned, that barred birds might have some sort of retarded feathring, which will resolve with a later mold.
On a another note it's mentioned that lavender issued birds can have a feather forming problem which is persisting. I'm not sure about the details, but maybe others know more.
Or it's some incomplete silkie feather gen appearing?

I hope it’s the barring, it is noticeable that the deformity is where most of the barred feathers are
He is not lavender I don’t think, but he might be split for it
Yeah I thought that too about the silky, but I’ve never heard of it only being in one spot
I’ll be keeping him as a pet only roo because I imagine no one will want him, and he’s a good boy I don’t want him in a pot somewhere

It would be the best outcome for him. Maybe it will resolve later. Many chicken can live with handicaps. I have a little bantam rooster with a leg issue, I won't give him away because of that.
I have a boygroup for the roosters until I can rehome them, so he has a lot of company and rather good life.

Yeah thankfully it’s not a huge handicap, and he’s happy with his brood mates, and we have a separate pen that him and the other boys can live in once they reach their teen stage

Did you worm them? A certain wormer can cause feathers to grow back weird if they are molting. I cannot remember which wormer that is.

At 10 weeks old he still has another juvenile molt coming. Hopefully he will correct it then. Good luck!

They haven’t been wormed, he’s always had these feathers

I’m starting to wonder if he has silkie in him, he has white earlobes which aren’t breed standard for pekins and still has those fluffy feathers
