Hello everyone, I picked up four cinnamon queen chicks on the 10th of this month. They are now 11 days old and growing nicely. But i’m concerned about one of my babies. Even though she’s almost 2 weeks old, she’s tiny, she looks like a 1 day old chick still. Shes got some wing feathers coming in. She’s not lethargic at all, she’s eating and drinking water. She doesn’t jump around like the bigger chicks, but she still walks around the brooder. Could this just be genetics? Or could there be something wrong?

It may just be runty . . . you could try nutri-drench for few days and see if it helps . . .it may just have a vitamin deficiency and need a bit of a boost.

If nutrition supplentation doesn't seem to make much difference in a week, you may have a failure to thrive on your hands. I patiently nursed a little chick in a similar position. He looked a lot like your chick pictured in body and size. He ended up never growing a single feather past those initial wing feathers chicks get at a couple days old, and I tried all the supplementation advice. He lived to be a month old yet was still the same size and nearly same weight he hatched at (I believe he actually lost weight, not gained). Until the last day, he was decently active and lively, running around with his siblings.

So sorry to hear that. :hugs

Okay, I’ll definitely go pick some up today! Hopefully it’ll work and all she needs is just a boost 🤞

I’ll be picking up the nutri-drench today, so hopefully that’ll work.
I do have a question regarding your chick that passed, when you picked him up, did he seem to lay down in your hand? When I checked on my chicks this morning, I picked the tiny one up to make sure she didn’t have pasty butt, and she kind of just laid down on her side in my hand. 😟

Yes, he did do that. I think it's a sign of slight weakness/lethargy. He would lay down on his side while pecking around sometimes as well. Not the same as the laying down for sunbathing motion, it seemed like he just got tired fast and needed to stop to rest frequently. Doesn't necessarily mean you can't save your little one though. Just because she feels a little weak right now, it doesn't mean it's the same thing and it could still be something fixable with a little extra care and nutrition.

She seems to be doing a little better right now. Definitely still gets tired fast. I mixed some of the chick feed with water and a tiny bit of probiotics/electrolytes, and mashed it up with a spoon. She loves it and I think it’s easier for her to eat than the dry crumble feed. Ever since she started eating it this morning she’s been a bit more active, but again still gets tired fast and has to rest. I think she’s a little annoyed with her rambunctious sisters 😂
