Yes, I was given one that had ascites and I delayed doing anything which I now bitterly regret. I went in one morning to let them out and she was lying dead with half her innards hanging out. It looked like she had physically exploded from the pressure of it. It taught me a valuable lesson, not to put off dealing with a problem as it is far worse to leave it. I was frightened to stick a needle in her to drain it but she must have died an horrendously painful death because of my inadequacy to deal with it.
On a positive note I recently bit the bullet and performed crop surgery on a pullet that was dying of an impaction just last week and she is doing great, so I learned from that other bad experience and put it to good, positive use this time.
