So I have five 3 week old chicks; 2 Black Orpingtons and 3 Marans (1 splash & 2 Blues)... Anybody want to weigh in on gender.... I think I hatched mostly boys.... of course....

Here are my Marans:

1. Big Blue (Boy??) .... I had thought girl until well that HUGE COMB grew

Big blue is well the big one in front and Chicken Little (aka#2) is the one on the right........

2. Chicken Little (Boy?) - When he hatched he stood up super tall like a human.... so thats why I say BOY!

3. Splash (girl???

)

And Now for the Orpingtons:

1. Orp 1 - Black (Boy???)

Orp #2 Tank...... (Boy ?? Girl??? Hmmmmmm)

Tank is in front and Black is lurking behind....

Thanks for the insight.... Please tell me I don't have all Roos ......

Oooh 1 more picture that gives you another shot of Black (orp1) on the right, tank (orp 2) sitting behind , Chicken little behind and Big Blue on the left...

Are you saying both Black Orps are boys??? Black & Tank???

I was hoping I was wrong as I am a total newbie at this but was fearing I was correct..... 4 boys 1 girl say it isn't so .... well at least I got 1 girl .... until she rapidly grows a comb ;)

1. Boy!
2. Boy!
3. Girl....based on the comb. Stance is kinda tall, though.
For the orpingtons, post back in a few weeks. Too young to tell for them. They could be boys, but they could be girls.

Oh no ! Splash chick can't be a boy she is my only hope for a girl!! Now I'm going to watch how she stands all day!! So there might be hope for the Orpingtons?? I'm convinced Black is a boy.... Walks tall.... Tank I'm on the fence about.... Was the biggest chick at hatch but then all of a sudden took a dramatic turn and almost didn't make it ..... But 2 days of not eating made him/ her one of the smaller chicks.... Tank is rounder then black who seems more oblong and skinnier .... Are those any hints to sexing them?

I don't think there is any way to tell at this age. you may be able to tell at 6 weeks.
