What outdoor temp lows would be safe for six week old Barred rocks? I am bringing them in at night & letting them be in my little coop days, but sure am ready to pack away that dusty indoor brooder box. Really happy with these birds though, they are friendly and calm and so pretty. And, still girls I think!

I've had fully-feathered, acclimated chicks off heat in the coop at 40F at 4 weeks.

It depends on how developed they are for their age, but in general it is recommended that brooders stay at 70 degrees or above for weeks 6 through 8 of development. That's playing it safe, though.

If they are well feathered and there are a few of them, they would probably be safe at lower temps, but not anything too drastic.

Hopefully both still hens- Broomstick is darker, Spanky is a little lighter. Inside tonight for sure because 30s.

I've had 5-1/2 week old acclimated chicks go through nights in the mid 20's Fahrenheit with no supplemental heat. They were in a coop with good ventilation up high and good breeze protection down low where they were. I don't know what your coop looks like as far as ventilation and breeze protection but I'd have them outside in my coop.

I have the same question I have 2 lavender Orpingtons and 3 barred rocks that have been outside since they were 6 weeks. Now at 8 weeks they are still outside but our temp is dropping below 50 and they are saying rain. Do I need to put them back in with a brooder plate ? I’m probably overthinking this.
