hi y’all
So I have this chick, which I thought was a pullet, but now I’m thinking cockerel due to behaviour and comb…
I got it from my friend who got the eggs from a breeder. My friend had one male and one female Bielefelder chick, from what they looked like at birth. Here is a picture of the one I believe I have, when it was a few days old:
I’m new at this so could be wrong but I thought the chipmunk stripe strongly suggested female.
Anyway, I only got her (him?) 3.5 weeks later, at which time it had changed greatly, although you could still see bits of the stripe. Also, it had more developed tail feathers than the other cockerels. I don’t have pictures other than this screenshot where you can see the stripe.
When I added her/him to my very small flock of two (one pullet and one cockerel), it seemed to have a hard time getting along with the other cockerel. First red flag.
Now the comb is looking big and more coloured every day… did I pick the wrong chick?
I was hoping for a female to avoid roo behaviour problems. Here’s my Bielefelder now:
What are your thoughts?
