I feel pretty dumb posting this because 9 months is quite late to question gender. I had deemed all 4 wyandottes I had left from this April group as hens many months ago, but as I was taking inventory for Spring orders this one gave me pause. It is not any larger than its "sibling hens" doesn't crow, and bcuz I have about 50 in the same area right now I have no way to know if/who is laying what. It is much smaller than the chocolate orpington rooster as pictured. The additional pics are one with its sister hen and an other with 2 more of its sisters by themselves. Is this a hen whose lacing is not as striking or is it a rooster trying to blend in with the hens so that it isn't threatening to the much larger cocks in the pen?

Thanks all for the confirmation. I had been so sure they were only pullets that I had ordered 2 roosters from the breeder for next spring. But I guess her feathers are so frayed they don't look rounded anymore so I thought I might have been mistaken. I'll need to keep my eye on her to see if she is sick. I also read about blue tail feather fraying, does that affect all the feathers or just the tail?

That Orpington rooster is HUGE!!!
That's Big Chocolate. He is so sweet and gentle. I LOVE all my roosters. I have collected 13 different beautiful breeds! Making sure they each have enough hens are why I ended up with too many chickens. I don't tolerate aggressive roosters though. If they "step up" to me, chase kids, are rough with the hens, or fight with the other roosters I cull them. I had a Niederrheiner that was 34" tall that had this weird roaring-like crow!!! We named him Cockzilla.
