A few important things I need to know about my ducks.

In the sticky threads post at the top of the Ducks forum is a link to a list of recommended duck treats, greens, vegetables, etc. I know that spinach is one that is recommended against or limited because of one of the nutrients in it. I can’t remember the details.

I just wanted to mention the sticky threads post as a great resource put together by many of the most experienced duck keepers here. I’ve been keeping ducks for only two years and have found a lot of helpful information there.

Hello! Congrats on your new ducklings and I support you saving the smallest one and the mate! Plus I am a huge fan of runners! I see you got lots of great answers to all your questions. I’ll just add in, I use apple cider vinegar once every 3 months and mix it into her drinking water to worm her. I do it as a just in case! 4 tablespoons to a gallon of water, but don’t use metal because ACV is a light form of acid so it can release (I think) ?zinc? into the water if dosed too high or release metal toxins if in metal. It works great for all pets and people too!!!

On March 17 I got 2 ducklings from TSC. I ended up with Runner ducks just by picking the tiniest one to keep her from being trampled, and picked one that looked like her as a companion. They are adorable, and I'm crazy about them!

Raised them inside till last week when they got close to fully feathered, and it warmed up outside. I realize I don't know enough about them, and I'm hoping for some wisdom and guidance here!

I need to know if what I'm seeing is normal. I started supplimenting their diet with B vitamin complex when I talked to someone with a duck having leg problems from lack of niacin. So now it seems like their poop is very dark and runny. Can someone show me pics of normal poop? Also,it would be helpful if I knew the proper dosage for the vitaamins.

Additionally, if the poop is abnormal should I get a fecal exam from the state lab? I have just bought a bottle of Valbazen wormer for my flock of chickens and don't know if it's safe for 7 week old ducks, don't have a clue what the dosage should be and would never want to hurt my little guys.
I would be very grateful for your advice here!
@casportpony recently posted this on another thread and may be helpful to you.

I don't think we're supposed to give spinach to ducks. Something about it affects their calcium levels. Maybe just a little bit but not regularly or a lot.
Do you happen to know about Basil? I know lettuce isn’t the healthiest of the veggie treats but just about anything green is all Gil will eat aside from her pellets! I’ll check the sticky thread as well!

Great information! Thanks for weighing in! I saw the stickys and haven't made my way through all the articles yet. Was interested in the one on treats for ducks, so I can teach them to come to me when the get to be loose in the yard.

Casportpony always writes good articles so thanks for sharing it here! I know more about chickens cause I've had mine for about a year, but know very little about my ducklings and have only had them for 7 weeks. I'm sure y'all will be hearing from me as I learn to give them the best care I can
