All my crazy projet ideas!

Pics
Okay, so it's been a while since I've done my updates.

Well, one reason is this summer has been a bit discouraging. I've lost so many birds just this year no matter what I do to prevent their deaths.
But, I'm trying to make a come back.
I have:
14 Silver Duckwings, 9 BB red's, and 3 Brown red's in my incubator right now!
Both my Silver Duckwing hens and the one BB red has started laying, so that's why I decided to start incubating all these eggs. I really hope to get a good hatch this time around.
The last big batch I did (65) did not end up in success, unfortunately... I only got 2 out of the whole batch.

But I'll tell you what, these are the cuties two little chicks! I got one BB red, and one lavender Cross color.

There's the chick / incubation update.

I have some rather unfortunate news from this week.

My brown red project has come to an end.
I lost my main breeding rooster to starvation (He had constant food in his pen, it's nothing I did, he just refused to eat this specif feed. I tried feeding him, but tit had no effect.) so I ended up selling the brown red hen and I'm considering selling my brown red maker hen and one of my BB red cockerels as a pair.
Then I can put some good money towards a new, quality line of BB red's, SDW, White, or Blue.

What do y'all think, sell the pair and start fresh with better quality birds, or try again on the brown reds??

I'd love to hear from you guys.

I also hope everyone had a wonderful Independence day!

I would keep going on brown red but that's one of those colors I like and would like to see in blue at some point.

I hope your luck turns around.

OH!
I also hatch my first SDW chick from the quad I brought in from KY. :celebrate
I'll show pics when I can.
Nice! Luck on growing them out.

I keep running into issues my self with coccidia. Not that that's surprising as we have many strains here and it's hared on the young that aren't hen hatched.

Get a good quality pair, non-show quality birds eat the same amount as show quality. In the long run it's less expensive to have quality birds because you won't need to hatch as many to get the desired result.
If you want the color breeding experience then keep whatever you want and breed toward the color you desire.

Thank you.

I still have one of her daughters because I still want to have to have an F2 from the pair I had, but I figured I would put her with my cross colors to get some neat mixes.
Though, I never really liked the brown red color till I hatched this pair last year, so I was thinking about possibly keeping an eye out for a nice quality pair (Or trio) of brown red's. Then I don't have to do so much breeding, which would also take up a lot of my time.
Because realistically speaking, it would've taken me at least 2-3 years to get my desired result, and I would still have to get an outside line of brown red's anyway.

I really appreciate that.
It's been a bit of a tough year, but I'll get through. ;) Thank you again for the encouragement.

I had a bit of a victory this week, I was able to sell two pairs and I made $175. :D
