There seem to be a couple of posts on this topic over the years but I haven’t found a clear answer and would love any info on what might have happened: I recently hatched 10 FBCM eggs. Nine of them are black and one is white. They hatched two weeks ago and the white one seems to be completely white (including feathers on legs).

It’s a recessive genes from whatever light colored chicken were bred into the Black Copper Marans, or it could be an albino?

How confident are you about parentage? Could it be a Splash?

I vaguely remember hearing about White Marans. That would be pretty neat if you got one.

if both hen and roo have recessive white gene chicks hatch white.

you can join https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...er-marans-thread-breeding-to-the-sop.1122465/ and ask any question about marans.

It's not albino its just a white marans.
It's recessive white so it only shows up when a chick gets the gene from each parent. A bird can get one copy and pass it on without it showing.
They aren't super uncommon now days I've seen them for sell from breeders and believe a few hatcheries also have them.
If you breed that chick all its offspring will get a copy and be carriers

Any chance of actually being just a Wheaten Maran chick? wheaten is recessive to Birchen and Extended black and breeders have been known to breed BCM and Wheaten Maran often

Maybe OP can shed some light.
Post said they were two weeks old. By now it should have feathered in wings etc. Wouldn't white be all white and wheaten have some color showing now?

I did always hear a lot of the BCM had wheaton mixed in. I always hoped I'd hatch some. Never did though.
