I know it prolly sounds terrible and idk if anyone would know, but I have left over almond milk and was wondering if it was safe to give it to our chickens and ducks? I know they love other dairy....is this something anyone knows about?

Normally chickens should not necessarily have dairy. They are not able to digest it.

Umm why is it leftover? Chickens are garbage disposals, but don't give them rotten stuff. Shouldn't hurt them, but I don't know what almond milk becomes past it's prime.

Chickens are just fine with dairy as well. Why wouldn't they 'Digest" it?

I would think a portion of almond milk would contain a lot more almonds than if you were just giving them a few as a treat so I wouldn't risk it as too much of anything can be toxic. It's also a highly processed product with chemicals, such as carrageenan, added during processing that, though approved for human consumption, have unknown affects on birds so I wouldn't take the chance.

Almond milk is a non dairy product. But in the same breath I give mine containers of yogurt and cottage cheese regularly.
They should like it. I would make a treat with pellets or other soaked grains with the almond milk.
Thank you! My girls loved it!! I mixed it with their cracked corn and grain...ate it all up! I also give mine yogurt and cheese and they do really well on it!

Ok, another related question...anyone know about coconut milk?

The live bacteria cultures found in yogurt are good for chickens’ gut health, not the yogurt itself. Birds are not equipped with the enzymes necessary to properly digest milk sugars. Some yogurt on occasion is fine and does contain beneficial cultures, but too much can cause digestive upset and diarrhea.

Personally, I on occasion give my birds kefir or kefir grains, the kefir grains feed on milk sugars (lactose) thus the risk is reduced. An even better choice would be to give chickens poultry probiotics to promote good gut health.

Anything fit for human consumption should be okay for your chickens. With a few exceptions. Almonds and coconuts are both seeds and in their raw forms are great sources of many things for many animals. However these alternative sources of dairy milks contain ALOT of preservatives, sweetners and process chemicals. I would agree with making treats with them. IMHO chickens are far less sensitive to things than say cats or dogs, being their nature is to forage. Great ideas for using excess coconut and almond milk though.

I have just used leftover rice milk to bake with a dry coconut pie mix i had and did not like. Mix made 2 pies, i made one and didnt like so fed that to my gals. Yumyum. Mixed some leftover rice milk with the rest of the pie mix and a little flour that was buggy and baked in a cake pan. Going to use leftover almond milk with some more of the flour to make tomorrows treat. The only thing i have found my girls do not like are banana peels. They need to stay in the compost bin.
