I’m putting the chickens away and all we hear in the woods sounds like a baby animal maybe. Like a cry at first we thought it was a bird but we don’t know anymore. It won’t pick up on the phone so we don’t have a recording. It’s like a “ Ah Ah ahhh” the spaces would be the cut offs in between the call. Sounds like a bird but it’s the only bird making a noise at night. In the morning we’re going to check and see if anything is still their. Right now we’re leaving it alone In case theirs a mama and it’s a bigger animal than a bird lol. Coyote? Bobcat?

Sounds like this except it’ll be two short crus and than one long one over and over. Could possibly be a baby bobcat. Will the mama come back for it?

There are a lot of animals that make sounds at night and without a recording it's very hard to tell what it could be. Could be a frog, bird, fox, coyote, bobcat, or any number of animals. I'm not as knowledgeable with bobcats as I am chickens so I'm not very sure. Typically if a baby animal is making sounds it's in distress. They have to stay hidden and avoid attracting predators so making a lot of noise is dangerous.

Possibly fox? You may consider putting a game cam out to watch around the coop.

I heard what sounded like a kitten wailing a couple months .The temperature was 10 below zero and there was snow on the ground but I couldn't see anything for the rhododendrons on the hill. It was dark too. When I searched and listened to audio online the closest thing I found to what I heard was a mountain lion.

Agree on the bobcat call. Yrs ago when walking through along a logging Rd to go hunting I heard a screaming that I thought was a woman being murdered. It was a bobcat. That spring I heard a similar sound, but wasn't sure until I seen a few cubs running around.
They were so cool to watch.
My brother apparently saw a cat near the same area during the day. He thought it was a bobcat so my guess is a cub. Hopefully it’s safe

We do have a fox but it doesn’t bother the chickens and stays away for the most part. We have a rooster so his crow kind of scares them off I would think. The fox doesn’t really come by our house. She’s more by the lake getting food.

Would the mama just leave the baby? Do you think the cub will still be their in the morning?
