Hi everyone, Do you have any recommendations for something that can help get rid of ants in the coop/run that’s safe for chickens? We have a ton of ants in the area. Thanks!

Thank you so much! You made a good point with them being good unless there’s an issue so we’re going to wait and see how it goes. And if it becomes a problem, we’ll try one of your ideas! Thanks! The safest thing to use would be a bait that is taken back to the nest by the ants, killing the queen and others there. Baits such as Terro or Raid Baits. The bait packs themselves would need to be secured in an area that the chickens could not reach.
Just to add, ants are a natural environmental component, and seldom cause any difficulties for the hens. They also benefit the environment in many ways, so if they are not actually causing a problems you may consider leaving them alone.
I prefer to let them eat crickets and other stuff. I don't want ants in the coop. I made a 1:1 mixture of water, vinegar and peppermint oil with cinnamon sprinkled around the entrancesIsn't that what the chickens are for? Eating the ants?![]()
