I got 2 new chickens the other day. One is a 2 month old hen and the other is a 3 month old rooster. Well the others will not stop pecking them...and the 2 new ones are too dumb enough to run and they just cower (sp?) and take the torture. Well they have pecked them to the point of bleeding and big wounds on the back of the head and the elbow of the wing. So now they are isolated from the rest in a separate cage. I know that when one has a wound the others will keep picking at it. Can I get some of that Anti-Pecking spray to put on the wounds to keep the other birds from bothering the 2 newbies until they get used to eachother?

P.S. I have put new birds with this flock before and this hasn't happened!

You can get some kind of anti-pick stuff and it helps to a point. You still need to keep the pecked ones separate until they get healed up enough to where the others don't continue to pick on them.
Also, make sure they have plenty of room and maybe give them a head of cabbage or something like that to ward off boredom.
Good luck to you.

I have one chick in perticulaur that would peck the others until they would bleed, Causing a frency of pecking from everyone.. I started putting triple antibiotic ointment( no pain relief kind) on the wounds.(a little heavy) He(and the other chicks) would peck it once, shake there head and leave the injured chick alone. I'm guessing it doesn't taste to well. Currently all the pecking seems to have stopped and all the injured chicks seem to be nearly fully healed.

I use Rooster Booster anti pecking liquid, and Bag Balm, before you know it their feathers will be growing back.I also on occasion sprayed the bare areas with colored (purple) wound spray.
I found the hens pecked one another while waiting to get to their favorite nest, naturally all 17 hens will lay in just 3 of eight nests.

I found a recipe for Anti - Peck, it goes like this 1 cup bag balm
1 tbsp. iodine
A half. cup aloe gel
A tbsp. cayanne pepper
A tsp. violet oil

Mix together , Put on pecked chickens, hope it helps

Hi, I know this is a bit old, but I was wondering if the spray worked? I am trying to decide about separating a bully. Whether she should be put in a kennel where near the birds she is bullying or completely away from the flock?

Did that spray work? It seems the main taste ingredient is the pepper, but I once accidently added three times the correct amount of pepper to Cajun grits. They were so hot no one could eat them, but I gave 'em to the chooks and they gobbled them up. Spicy things just don't seem to bother them.
