Any ideas for an inexpensive privacy fence?

Ive been looking online at fencing, what I like is the bamboo but I have a Large area to cover and looks like that'll run into a lot...what I have is a 4 ft high chainlink fence and I want something I can attach to that so I can't see the neighbors and they can't see in, I need at least 6 feet tall...any ideas?

You can look into the mesh that they use to put over chainlink around tennis courts. I think no matter what you look at it is going to be expensive. Privacy and luxury always come at a cost

The fence it is going tp attach to is only 4 ft high so it would have to be something ridgid so the 2 ft stand upright.....I actually haven't looked yet lowes or home depot but Im thinking they just have the 8 ft panels of the wood fencing, I need so much whatever I use is going to be pricey I guess

There are those aluminum or plastic strips you can 'weave' into the chainlink -- but that does not STOP someone from seeing thru, it just makes it LESS see-thru, you know? Also they rattle somethin' awful in the wind.

Honestly there is nothing you can do to make it totally opaque that is ALSO cheap and ALSO not going to either blow off in the first storm or cause your FENCE to blow over in the first storm. Chainlink posts are not generally installed to support the kind of wind load that a totally solid privacy fence gives you.

You could try a high percentage shadecloth. Again, it will not be totally opaque but will make things less obvious; and it will increase wind load a bit but not IME *too* much.

You can't make it 6' tall and opaque without it going to go over in a strong wind. Sorry.

I am getting ready to put up 4X4 PT and just put up PT lattice so none can see what it is just by driving by LO(L the guys behind me do not care they like eggs LOL

have you looked into the rolled fencing that looks like little sticks? It may be the bamboo you mention. Can you place the fencing here and there, intersperced with plants? That would help finances. We have shrubs on the west side hiding our coop and fencing on the east side that the neighbors put up as well as behind us. We have 'shared' fencing. We planted the shrubs on the west to grow higher than the 6' fence as the kids would climb the fence and watch us having dinner with guests on the patio. Not cool. The shrubs are now 10 feet tall. : )

You know what might work well? Put burlap or shadecloth on the chainlink, then attach the bamboo fencing OVER that. I bet you could not see thru the lower 4' at all that way because of the *2* semi-opaque layers. And it should not be *that* wind-load-y.

Is there a vine that he would like?

You might be able to use the fence to support it and not see each other. It does take more care and work, but can be very pretty. Not sure where you live, but you might be able to used something that you can eat as well.

Passionfruit vines, gourds, a row of sun flowers, sweet peas etc
