This is pseudoscience. @Star silkies you are referencing atomic magnetic energy, but you don't seem to actually understand what your talking about. We are not in the dark ages and no one is bringing up religion except you. I am a Health and Science Major, working on Masters. I have a firm grasp on this subject. Atomic energy generated by electrons creates random magnetic fields, at best you could magnetize a needle and observe some kind of pull from another living thing, like static electricity, but it will never have a definite one direction or the other rotation to dictate a specific outcome.
Holding a needle on a thread in your hand, you are influencing the movement, there's no way to hold completely still.
For the sake of experimentation I think we'd all love to see you build a rig to hold the string for you. Also you never answered me before about performing this on the spot where chicken copulation happened 48 hours after the fact, you have cameras you review before doing this? And a lot of free time?

This is very interesting @Star silkies. I do see your reasoning as to why this may work, but I'm still not completely convinced its accurate per @MadamContrary's reasoning. Not saying you shouldn't try this, or keep using it as it seems to work well for you.
Are you incubating any time soon? I think it would be really really cool if you made a thread documenting your guesses based on this method, and what the hatching chicks ended up being.
If your up to it, the next time you hatch make a thread marking eggs with markers, and labeling which eggs are what gender. Incubate and hatch, then once they're old enough we can guess gender, or you can get DNA tests and see if the guesses were right. You would have to do leg bands after hatch so you know which is which, but I would definitely follow that thread and It think others would as well. It would be a very interesting experiment, and possibly show members on here that are skeptical, (like myself) that this method really does work. It would be interesting if you wanted to try. I personably agree with the others, there are so many factors involved, (how still the holder needs to be, and the science to it in general) that I really don't think it will be accurate, but it will be very interesting to see how it goes. Keep us posted!

I think my fav part is you can do the string test on yourself, kids, other pets...and it works....like really works...I did it with kittens....

This is the one superstitious method that I have some family members that have held onto for decades.
There's a few variations like hanging a woman's wedding ring on a necklace over her stomach to sex unborn children.
I've seen every spin on this throughout my life and can assure you it's not accurate and there's no science to back it.
When I was child a few of us learned that with this miracle method rocks, bottle caps, pine cones and dirt clods all had clear genders.
It was amazing.

This mean old lady my Grandma is friends with does needling to pregnant women. She swears by it. She did the needling to my pregnant belly when I was pregnant with my 2nd. My first was a boy. She said her method was guaranteed right, I was having a girl... It was boy. I had already had an ultrasound during which we found out his gender, but didn't tell her. Haha! It was very rewarding, since I can't openly disrespect anyone infront of my precious little Grandma.
