Any other hobby entomologists here?

Y'all use iNaturalist right? It's free and it's an app or desktop resource you can upload anything living and it will help you ID it based on look and location. It's great for aspiring biologists all the way up to serious scientific work. I highly suggest all of y'all use it and upload your finds, you never know when it could be useful for the scientific community!
Nope and until this group hadn't heard of it. Just years of using books and an entomology FB group for bug ID do we know what we've got most of the time lol

So I'm a custodian at a MS/HS and even though I'm tired in the early mornings , I'm enjoying all the visitors (that I gently move away from traffic)

These white banded crab spiders are pretty common, but I thought it was cool this one had an "A" on its back! They can turn from white to yellow but I think it takes longer to turn white. Oh and it sits anchored to the plant with the shorter back legs, then waits to grab prey with the stronger front legs!

I used to collect insects. I had several pinned (already deceased) but got out of it and eventually lost my collection.
I did have a pet female Rabid Wolf spider for a bit. But I let her go after the eggsack she created failed.
I have many pictures of giant silk moths, (kentucky), including the sphinx, those were my favorite finds.

Manduca sexta caterpillar, aka the tobacco hornworm

These pics are from a few days ago, now it's twice as big and wandering the bottom of the critter container looking for a good spot to burrow. It's covered in dirt 😆

Zoom in and look at the beautiful colors and details, like the eye spots! These guys are so cartoonish to me in the best way.
