Did anyone ever cross a light sussex rooster with a speckled or a red sussex hen?
If yes, what did you get?
Thanks...

I did the cross both ways Light Sussex Cockerel on Speckled hen and got the cream shouldered silver coloumbian cockerels and silver columbian hens. Both showed light golden shades n the shoulder and hackle. The cross the other way with Speckled sussex rooster on light sussex hen yielded autosexing chicks, the males were like the males of the first cross and the females were red and sort of like red sussex but with more black ticking on the back. I am planning to breed the F1 together and get a nice assortment of sussex colors.

I did the cross to help the size and type of my speckleds. The light cockerels are about 9.5 pounds and my speckled cockerels are about 7 pounds, and the crosses were better than 8 pounds.

After crossing the F1 I have a nice colorful group of F2 birds. I have some yellow mille fleur sussex, some silver mille fleur, some that are speckled sussex (with mahogany) some that are buff sussex, some that are like lights silver columbian but with more black pn the backs Next to my pure lights the F2 lights are very messy. I am going to work with the yellow mille fleur and the speckled from this cross.
