my dog has found out that eggs taste good and i need to stop this behavior. every morning he goes around before i can get out and raids one nest which will only have one egg and then eat that one and go to another one right now its duck eggs and if i don't beat him to it the one goose egg i get every other day soon our peacocks will be laying and if i don't stop him before they start laying then i have a feeling my parents are goin to be getting rid of a dog one way or another also i've tried to do one thing that we did with a previous dog and wrap the egg or dead chicken in electrical wire and thenput it on a rubber mat and wrapp the wire that is on the egg or the chicken to an electric fence and wait for them to pick it up with our previoua dog this stopped him for a few months until the neighbor dog came over and went on a spree but with this one he won't even go near the egg i've even tried moving it on the fence and pulling up grass and covering the mat around the egg but it isn't helping what do you guys think got any tips

One method is to puncture an egg to drain the contents and use a syringe ( without needle ) to fill the empty shell with mustard... put the egg where the dog will find it and let it eat away.... you may have to do this a few times... having said that.... it would be an idea to restrict access for the dog until you have removed any eggs that may have collected....substitute the mustard filled egg and let the dog loose to find it.

thank you and also the ducks are free range and we don't belive in tethering dogs so thats out i've heard of hot sauce but is mustard more effective

If you aren't willing to restrain your dogs or place to birds nest areas in a restricted area then you will likely have trouble breaking this behavior. Other than the possibility of hot sauce or mustard working the only other suggestion I would have is a shock collar or cattle prod or other electric fence setup as you already mentioned, if those don't work your only choice is to restrain the dogs or deal with an egg sucking dog.

I agree with simply controlling the dog.Lock it up in a crate till you colect eggs.Far easier than training it not to like eggs. I forgot an egg once outside on the table and my pup ate that thing whole!

My pup is so dumb she would forget a bad tasting egg.She eats poo so how bad can a messed with egg be?!!?!

I say lock the dog up even if you you feed it nasty eggs to deter it. I have a crate outside so I can lock the dogs up when needed.

My dog has a better smeller than that. He'll turn his nose up at a hot dog weenier with just a hint of mustard, or hot pepper chow-chow on it. I can't see him sucking an 'aig' with mustard in it.

An insulated wire hooked to an electric fence charger then connected to a short loop of naked wire loosely laid around the egg will likely produce a miracle cure, and the best part is that the pooch is never the wiser that you are the one to gave him the shock of his life. So the dog still trusts you as his pack leader, and you can now trust the dog with your chicken eggs.

we have actually used a shock collar also and we had it turned up all the way and zapped him when he had an egg in his mouth and he just sat there looking at us with his neck just twitching and that was the only indication that it was working was his neck twitching
