Are pigeon shows still pretty common in the US?

My father was a pigeon fancier in the 70's and 80's. As a child I remember his coops in the barn, stacks of old APJ issues, and strings of bands hanging on nails in the barn. I only went to a couple of shows with him in the early 80's, but I was only 4 or 5 and was so bored out of my mind I never went to any after that. I still have all of his awards/trophies. Do they still have those smaller shows or are they larger regional/national competitions (or non-existent)?

I have zero time for what my father did and from what I remember most competitors were older retirees. Just a bit nostalgic today.

Hm. I was mistaken. My parents bought our house growing up in the late 60's, and they had two babies, so I assumed he didn't really get into pigeon shows until the 70's. The rest of his awards are in storage, but this one is hanging up in my kitchen.
