I've read about ppl giving their chickens watermelon, and now, as an afterthough (meaning after I gave them watermelon) I'm wondering if the seeds are poisonous or if they just don't eat the seeds. Anyone??? Thanks!!!
I think the seeds of most melons are good for your chickens. I give my chickens my pumpkins after the fall and they eat all of the seeds first and then the melon down to a paper-thin shell. They are as healthy as ever and love the entire melon. I am giving my morning melons right now to the group... It's watermelon, that is seeded, and they are diving in for those seeds. Have fun, always check first.
There would be dead chickens all over if melon seeds were poisonous. Watermelons, cantalopes, pumpkins, and squash are some of their very favorite foods.
