Arkansas Blue egg layers

I just checked my last set of Blues that I set. I have 100% development which is the best I have ever had. Fingers crossed on hatch success as humidity has been so high here that I have lost the last two hatches of everything I have set including mine and shipped eggs except for 4 chicks.

I have three new pullets that are showing comb color and development. They should be laying soon. My blue cockerel is chasing all the free rangers all over the place which means it is time to create a new pen and put the new pullets with their sire, and the blue cockerel with the older hens. This will give me some blue over blue to get a black as I currently only have blue and splash. If this hatch goes well I will have chicks for anyone local if they want them.

I have lost my waiting list so if you are waiting on eggs from me, I am sorry. Please send me a PM, and I will try to get them out before it gets too hot to ship. I'm saying that with the temp at 38 last night, but last weekend was 90+.

A de humidifier in a small room might help with humidity.

I hope they hatch for you!

Ahhh I wish I had picked up some eggs from you - splash is exactly what I wanted!

Sorry to hear that, hatching shipped eggs can be so discouraging.

I knew from the outset the best I could hope for would be 50% hatch rate. We'll see if I even have 1/12 eggs hatch right now I think the odds are slim. That would be one lonely chick - hopefully I could integrate her in with the 3 week old chicks?

Get some from her!
Definitely wish I had the first time around!

Trying to decide between waiting for next year to hatch again and getting more eggs now.

Turned off the incubator yesterday, 0 for 12 eggs set

, the last one had a large blood ring and no longer had blood vessels. I knew i couldn't expect 90+% that I have had with hatching non-shipped eggs but was hoping to at least get one chick. Oh well, hopefully my luck will be better next time.

Well, in defense of whoever sold you the last batch, no development does happen to everyone occasionally on shipped eggs. I have noticed on received and shipped eggs that it is highly dependent upon which sorting stations it is routed through. If a shipment goes through Chattanooga, TN from my area... Nothing. I can ship to CA or receive from CA which is three day shipment and get much better results than something as close as TN or MO. I think some locations either Xray or machine sort or both every package regardless of type of shipment.

Very good points!

I shipped a box of eggs to Tennessee yesterday. I used a variation of this method:

I did not wrap the eggs in paper but did use pine shavings. I also double boxed and used foam and air cushion around the boxes.

I hope they make it! They are Partridge Penedesenca eggs. Pene eggs are notoriously hard to hatch when shipped.

I totally understand and accepted the risk buying shipped eggs.

That looks like a good method ronott! I have seen a number of different ways to pack eggs but have no practical experience yet. The ones I received were in an egg carton surrounded by newspaper, not sure if that contributed or not. At least they were double boxed. A couple had cracks prior to shipping and most had detached air cells which I have read is common with rough handling in route via the post office.

Debating between buying more shipped eggs or just picking up some blue ameraucana eggs locally.
