I'm looking for a coop and found an add in Craigslist for an Arrow Shed. Don't know if I'm getting a good deal or not. They are asking $200 for an 8x10 shed, looks to be in good condition.

Does anyone know if these are well built?

Would a shed be an adequate shelter in the winter. Winters are mostly mild here.

They get really hot inside especially in sunny locations. You'd need to spend a bunch more money and insulate it and put some some paneling or something to keep the chickens from pecking at the insulation.

You really dont have to spend alot of money, some home improvement centers and construction sites would let you have the extra paddings, foam boards is best and get good wooden or plastic basement panelings for the chickens living part.

Install storm windows on all four sides of the shed and outtake and intake fans would be a big bonus.

Good luck!

We have an Arrow shed (metal) and it works great.
We cut windows into it and it is in the shade of several large pines, so it doesnt get very hot inside. We attached the run to the shed by predrilling and then screwing the boards through the metal into wood on the inside. Made window frames the same way.
Next year I am going to have the dh make a chicken wire "door" that will be on the inside of the front sliding doors. That way I will be able to open the sliders and get the air moving during the really hot days without having to lock the girls out in the run. Since they cant free range here at all... well maybe if we get a 6ft stockade fence around the entire yard. maybe

Thanks for the replies, I emailed and called the seller and they havn't replied yet. I hope I'm not too late

Keep in mind you can get a brand new Arrow 8 x10 from Lowes for $289 so if you're going to have to pay someone to move it or take it apart you might be better off getting a new one.

Thanks for the into, I had researched the sheds online, but not at Lowe's. I wasn't aware they are that innexpensive. I guess that's not really that great a deal. Especially since we would have to haul 50 miles to get it home.
