I did the other day and he's much happier but still pretty blind. It's so thick in front of his eyes that I don't know how to thin it. I haven't seen one chick with an afro quite as big as his.

Bundle him up in a towel like a burrito with just his head sticking out. Then have some one else hold him for you, gently grab him by the beak without covering his nostrils and carefully trim way until his eyes come free.
Overgrown crests like his will prevent the birds from being able to properly socialise, feed themselves and drink. Also they are very easy targets for predators as they are unable to see them in time.

I did two nights ago. I didn't do a great job but he's clearly more active and happier.
