Australia - Six states..and that funny little island.

At the risk of revealing my ignorance, are there issues with setting eggs this time of year?
I’m in Grafton, NSW, so we’re experiencing high heat and humidity. Will this effect fertility and/or hatch rate? Am I enter to wait until March or to just go for it?
Thanks.

They should be fine this time of year, whether under a hen or in an incubator. That said, lots of things effect hatch rate, so there are no guarantees.

I second MaryJanet's answer and want to add that a lot of birds will start moulting around March and there won't be many fertile eggs around at that time of the year. So it is either go for it now or wait until next breeding season.

Does anyone know where I can get permethrin/pyrethrin powder for my chickens? My birds are having lice problems. I am using the David Grays poultry dust, but it does not smell as nice as the pyrethrin powder I used to have before, unfortunately Coles/Woolworth no longer sell that powder, so I am looking for an alternative.

Bunnings or Petstock would be my first choices.

I had a look at Pestine's Composition, Sulfur is one of the main ingredients, that's what makes the David Grays poultry dust smell really bad. Both David Grays poultry dust and the pyrethrin powder worked really well. It's just pyrethrin powder smells a bit better.

Maybe I should stop being picky.

Also there are plenty of head lice solutions provided by the Chemical Warehouse, I wonder they work on the chickens as well.

Edit: I have found the one I am looking for, although it's marketed as flea control for dogs. I might try it when I have the chance because although it's still using natural pyrethrins as its main ingredient, it has a different packaging and I am not sure it works as well as before.
