I love Australorps, and after now having them for years I am finally going to get a couple for my mixed flock here in Arizona. It got me to thinking about the breed. The only color I had ever seen them was black, but this last year came to learn that they also come in splash and blue.

Are there any other color varieties in the US? Such as a buff, red/orange, or the wheaten laced, and golden varieties I've read about (but haven't seen pictures of)? Any others?

I love the black girls, but in my area having a little lighter color that isn't white would probably be helpful to them in our heat. Plus, I love having variety in my flock! :D

No. Australorps were initially created using black Orpingtons so any other colors would have to be created using outcrossings.

If you want something colorful for a hot climate maybe consider a Mediterranean breed like a Pendesenca?

I looked at the Pendesenca, but I want a more friendly temperament and not skittish or flighty. My flock not only provides eggs but are also my pets, so the personalities are really important.
