So I purchased 8 unsexed Australorp chick's. The oldest I was told was around 8 weeks when I got them. That was 4 weeks ago.
I seem to only have one that looks like a pullet. But the oldest one has me wondering. It looks and walks like a hen and clucks like a hen. But it's developing some pointed feathers so would like some unbiased opinions.
Do I have 7 🐓 please? 😢

Agreed. If they were four weeks old when purchased, I bet you anything the seller knew :(
Yes, I even mentioned to him that they all looked like roosters. But he said it's impossible to tell with Australorps.
I havnt had them before. He said he sells them unsexed and just grabs the first ones that he catches?? I feel like they are not normal grab ratio odds.

I'm so sorry. On the upside, you'll have purebred eggs to hatch eventually and multiple cockerels from which to pick a good boy. Your hatching odds will at least be around 50% over multiple hatches, which is much better than you got here.

That was my thinking exactly. Chickens are scarce atm in Australia because of bird flu or something so at least i can breed. The guy I brought them off eats them, so he said if I returned them he could give me some more chick's that i would hopefully get some pullets from. I don't really want to start over though. I paid $120 for them. 🙄

I would totally take him up on that, keep the nicest boy and return the rest of them and take more chicks. If you get chicks that are older again, look at comparisons of combs and take the ones with tiny, very light colored combs. That’s a lot of money spent if you’re just going to eat them all!

Clearly the guy knew what he was selling. That is so shady, imo. Sorry he ended up pawning his boys off on you. I hope he didn’t charge too much for them!
They were $15 each. But that seems to be to going rate for unsexed around here. He seemed genuine. Said he has never had anyone get such bad odds. He wouldn't let me pick through them as he said it was unfair on the next buyer. But part of me wondered if he sexes them the first week and sells the rest unsexed.
