Hi. Just wanted to share that this appears to be spreading from PA to other areas of the country. My friend in Ohio had a duck tested. Symptoms include upper respiratory (sneezing, discharge from eyes and nostrils), and paralysis. From what I've seen it appears to affect turkeys, geese, ducks, and meat birds the worst, and possibly a wild Canada goose. Although my friend lost 3 layer hens, mine fortunately don't seem affected, other than a couple sneezing. I treated my flock with tylosin, doxycycline, and affected individuals additionally with colloidal silver and b vitamin complex.

Good article. Thanks for posting about this virus that antibiotics will not treat. I have been aware of swollen head syndrome for awhile. We had a hen suspected with it in a nearby town. It has affected turkeys for decades. With this and other respiratory viruses being spread by migrating birds, it is really important for us to prevent wild birds from eating and drinking out of our poultry’s food and water.

Ok, yes it is a virus but the meds above have antiinflammatory and antimicrobial properties. I found that the above combination of meds and supplements saved most of my flock. Of 300+ birds I only lost 8 goslings, 2 ducks, and 1 quail. No turkeys lost. One turkey and one duck are paralyzed. Most of the meat birds had to be culled.
