Baby Chicks 2025 - Chicks are here!

Mine will be 2 weeks tomorrow, and I can't believe how big they are already. I don't know that I've ever had any chicks grow this quickly. Particularly the olive egger and one of the Rhode Island Reds. They're big girls.
And the leghorns are feathering out like crazy. Moved them to an even bigger brooder today.

These are just the sweetest little chicks.

Barnevelder. She is so curious. Doesn't like to be held or petted much but she runs right up whenever I stick my hand in

@MGG They are SO ADORABLE!

Did they mark your Barred Rock boy a boy? I am not convinced...I know its early but I would think his comb would be a bit bigger...it is TINY! The one BR boy we had I knew after the first week. (Tried to convince myself otherwise, lol).

Thanks!!! I'm just loving these babies.

They didn't, he was one of the extras. Him and the other barnevelder.
He does have much more white than the other one, but I guess I don't know for sure. I would love if he's a she!
Also both BRs have pretty white legs and beaks. I thought they were supposed to be yellow? Or does that come later? I haven't raised BRs in years.

They are supposed to be yellow, but sometimes hatchery stock can be a little faded 😂. Will be following along to see if he is definitely a he!

Thanks! I figured it might be a little off. Gotta get these babies some yellow pigment! Marigold or something :lol:

I keep feeling bad that my chicks aren’t coming yet…but then thinking about sitting out in the damp, 40 degree garage…June will be much better 😂 Upper NY spring is a cold spring!

Haha! They'll be here before you know it. June would definitely be better, here too 😅
We have very cold springs. This year it's actually been better, but it's 32 here and raining/snowing. Yesterday it was almost 60. The chicks were in the dining room though until today and now there in the basement. They are getting dusty though so I'll have to move them somewhere outside probably in another week or so. They should be able to be in my duck shed with a heat lamp until I have ducklings to move out there.
