Hi there, I got some Barnevelder chicks a couple months back.
They’re now 4 months and 12 days old.

I am curious if this one looks like a rooster to anyone else?

I have not heard any crows and it hasn’t acted like a rooster.

I have a couple of barnevelder cockerels. The stance that this one is taking says pullet... but the wattles are saying cockerel. One of my cockerels I swear came out of the shell looking like a roo... started crowing at 4 weeks old too. BUT, the second hasnt crowed at all, but still looks like a cockerel. They say on the barndavelder website that males will develop full, pointed tail feathers quickly where females will develop no tail at all or very little until later. I'm going to say cockerel..... mine are about the same age as yours. Do you have a picture of it in a different stance. Next to others for comparison?

Here are my cockerels for comparison. My husband still doubts the first picture...Alvin... is a cockerel
The second is Theodore, and hes the one that came out looking like a cockerel. In the picture they are maybe 7/ 8 weeks old. Currently they are 11 weeks. Not much has changed other than size, they have gotten bigger...and Alvin's wattles and combs are larger now.

I’ll try to get more pictures tomorrow. Here’s a headshot of the chicken in question. I have not heard any crows, nor has it acted like a Roo. Really what’s throwing me off is the comb and wattles. The stance in this picture is a little lower than how it normally stands. I wasn’t looking forward to a Roo, but it’s more indifferent for me. 1BB67EC4-6373-4326-99E8-0B18DBA584CB.jpeg

With this breed, it is SO HARD to tell. If you have more barndavelders in your flock, I think it will help :) My Alvin stands like this all the time.... until hes challenged by the other... then you definitely see cockerel. My husband keeps saying pullet by the picture... :)

It's pretty easy to tell at around 6-8 weeks as males will get red combs by than. Clearer pictures may help. Generally males don't have clean lacing across the shoulders. It's usually dark with a patch of gold on the wings. At least that's what I've seen. My first barnevelder rooster was a bit lighter. My current one is quite dark.
