Hi all, I thought I selected well at the feed store but am worried I have a cockerel. This barred Plymouth Rock is 3.5 weeks old. She’s starting to show red lines for waddles and her comb is getting red. Any early indications of pullet or cockerel?

I hope you’re right! I looked at the wings and leg color and everything when I bought her but the comb getting red so early is making me nervous. I also bought two buff Orpingtons and their legs are a bit thinner which has me worried too. Will update pictures in a few weeks.

At this early age seeing red coming in at the comb and waddles appearing makes it for me most likely a rooster. I would still wait a little bit longer till about 5 weeks old.
Hens should have pale comb and no waddles at 5 weeks. If you see the red getting more and more waddles coming in will it be rooster.

Updated pictures with better lighting. She’s 4+ weeks now. I actually wonder if she’s a bit older as the feed store said she was over a week when I got her.

We have two 7 wks, with orange- ish comb. Still single barr, I think pullet. Yellow legs with gray wash. The legs on yours look gray.

Ohh this is good to see! I think mine is on the same track. Really hoping she’s a she. My daughter loves her. I just had a rooster I had to rehome because he chased my kids and don’t want to deal with that again.
