Hi! I have an about 18 week old barred rock rooster named Mr. Big (not named after anything, he just was like a good 2 heads taller then the rest of the chick's when he was younger. He's always had a fairly deep crow, but recently his crow has been starting to jump up to a really high pitch, like he'll crow normally, and then half a second in his crow will jump up to a squeal that's higher pitched than a squeaker toy but is pretty soft. On top of that, his clocks are really high pitched, and he breathes through his mouth. His mouth is always slightly open. Could this be a respiratory issue? I think it could also be that his comb might be covering his nostrils a bit so he just can't breathe through his nose. If its that, should i do anything? I don't have a good picture of him now, but I will post one later.

Can you please post photos of him, his comb and the nostrils?

A video of the sounds he makes may be helpful. Upload video to youtube and provide a link.

Look inside his beak for any signs of lesions or canker.
Check his crop to make sure his crop is emptying overnight.

He's 18 weeks, so still just a young cockerel, the "voice" can change as he matures.
