I'm looking to get a pet Flemish giant soon. Will be outside. I've been trying to research the best cage design. I want him/her to have plenty of room and I don't really want to use a wire bottom cage (tho I've also read thats not good for Flemish giants anyway)

I'm debating between using a concrete bottom, or just directing on the ground. Do rabbits make their cage like mud like chickens do? Or will it stay grass lol. I obviously want to do the most sanitary way. So just curious what the best thing is and what your setups are like.

I have a raccoon problem with my chickens so will need to do some predator proofing with either option.

I prefer my rabbits on concrete. They can dig in bare ground which can become quite an ankle breaking mess in my experiences.

You could also consider a tractor type pen. Wire on the bottom so it can't dig out and predators can't get in. Then you could move it to fresh grass every couple of days.

I used to raise meat rabbits. I learned that due to the weight of the flemish giant x New Holland cross rabbits needed a way to get off of the wire bottoms I had in my cages. The wire made sores on their feet, that eventually bleed. I placed a piece of plywood in the pen and they could get off of the wire. With this said I would recommend keeping them on the ground. If you peel back the sod where the hutch will be and dig down about a foot, you can use pvc coated chicken wire to prevent any dig outs or predators from digging in. Of course this is just my opinion.
