At the moment I'm trying to breed some very black Muscovies, I've got 7 dark Muscovy ducklings from my blackest Muscovy duck but I'm hoping Dusty (black drake with lots of white on his face and chocolate on his body in some places) isn't the dad as I got a very black drake and I wanted to use him for breeding.

We'll see when the ducklings are fully feathered. If Dusty is the dad they'll have a fair bit of white on them and they'll also probably have some chocolate and light grey feathers on them. I'll keep this updated.

Do you have pictures?

I did what you are trying with chocolate muscovys.. it went very well for me.
however, be prepared to butcher or sell lots of off colored ducks before you get all blacks..
if the babies have yellowish spots of them, they will probably have white feathers there.
If you are going to butcher the culls, do it when they are young..more tender meat..

I’m soon going to be replacing my current breeding drake, as soon as I can find a nice black drake. I did see one for sale but it looked a bit young, at least it was basically solid black except for some white on the wings but that doesn’t bother me, and it had a nice long body. Thing is it’s probably already been sold.

And a problem I may run into throughout this whole cycle of buying new drakes, selling birds I’ve bred. Is that at some stage I’m most likely going to be buying my own birds back.

In the same ad two mutt drakes with yellow feet looked like two drakes I sold. If they were those same two drakes they’d be Dusty’s boys.

I’m currently trying to also get some pure black or white winged black ducks for breeding stock, as I only have one duck for breeding since I’m not going to use the one with wry tail anymore.

Update 6/8/19
So, quite some time ago last year or possibly even early this year I sold Dusty the drake I was going on in the start of this thread. I then got a new drake who still hasn’t been named, who was pure black when I bought him. He’s a bit small, has a bad body type and is a bit weird with how he walks and stuff. Out of the three sons I kept from him, two have a nice long body whilst one has a short body.

Plan is I’ll be showing them at the end of month, and whichever drake goes best will be used for breeding, and the other two will be sold. Although I may keep one of the other drakes.

This Drake is my current favourite:

Problem is he’s probably going to go white too fast. The drake behind him has a similar body type but is completely black (except for a bit of white on the wings).

Here’s a video of my drakes, including my current breeding drake (the white winged black), which drake do you think is the best in type and colour:
I think the youngest black drake isn’t in the video though so here’s a video from yesterday:
Black Muscovy Update

Any feedback is helpful.

View attachment 1869118This is what I thought show Muscovy drakes were to look like?
That’s my aim, except for the caruncles on the face. They don’t need to be so bumpy, but I don’t want a bird with a completely smooth face.

Not much white on the wings.
We do have a standard here in Australia for blacks and white winged blacks, so white or no white on the wings they are ok.
