Black Specks in Hard Boiled Egg

It's a good question.
What organism could survive boiling then flourish in the fridge tho?
Or maybe the organism moved thru egg pores after boiling and cooling while in the fridge?
Wonders if blood spots in egg before boiling got blown into smaller specks and turned black with cooking?

All speculation.<shrugs>
Food goes bad. Fungus and bacteria doing it's job. I don't know how long boiled eggs will last in the fridge but I know they can go bad. Like you my premise is all speculation, I don't know any real information. Blood spots I have seen in boiled eggs look like boiled blood spots. This looks like mold/mildew to me.

Agrees on both accounts....just wonders how it could have gotten inside shell.

Tho could be something in the water, or air, and when eggs cooled it was pulled in thru pores.

I haven't heard back the answers to the questions we posed, may take a few days...
...or never happen, she's not as curious as I am.

Good evening new Backyard Chicken friends. I inadvertently ran a little experiment today and wanted to share my results, from which I have drawn my own conclusions. First, when I arrived home from the grocery I boiled 15 eggs, 9 of which were from a partial carton I already had in the fridge. I had purchased these 9 eggs a week ago from a very large superstore. The additional 6 eggs were from a small chain grocery-only store from which I purchased the additional eggs today. I typically boil my eggs in a stainless steel pot and have recently started adding vinegar to the mix in order to "soften" the shells and ease peeling. Today, I boiled the eggs in a cast iron pot and added apple cider vinegar. Some amount of spotting was visible on 12 of the eggs and therefore I know it wasn't related to either individual carton.

Interesting.
I assume it was bare cast iron and not enameled?
Was pot in good shape seasoning wise, no buildup of foods on surface?
