Bloody chicken butt!!

Can you place her inside a dog crate inside your coop, where she can heal and eat and drink without the others pecking her, but she can still be a part of the flock?

I have had a few hens with those red bulbous bottoms, and they have lived a couple of years. The usual causes are fat, internal laying, or ascites. Once she heals, I would use some BluKote spray on her red butt to keep them from pecking her.

No. The hen house is not set up to wear I can fit a crate in it. I could the run but she would have no protection from the weather.

I don’t know if you might have a basement or garage where she could stay crated for a few days, until her wound scabs over. Then spray her butt well with BluKote, and try her back in the flock.

I could put her in the basement if need be. Right now she’s safe in the house. She even laid an egg this morning. She still has that swollen abdomen. I don’t know what would have initiated the pecking though.

Possibly a small scratch, wound or messed up feathers could have caused interest from her flock-mates and thus, caused multiple chickens to peck on that area just making it worse.
