I am just getting into breeding silkies and recently purchased a group of white silkies. In that group there happened to be one blue cream rooster. What do I need to breed him with to get nice looking chicks? Only a blue cream hen? Or what would happen if I bred him with a solid buff hen or solid lavender hen? Thanks for any help on this. I was just going to sell him and keep only the whites but my daughter loves him so I'd like to try to find him a nice girlfriend.

Depends on of his "blue" is lavender or blue based. Blue cream also known as porcelain is created by crossing lavender to buff birds. And then crossing them back again. I believe it is still a project color and may not breed true. Do you have a photo of your lovely boy?

He is beautiful and looks to be a blue cream. You can breed him to lavender. All the chicks will be lavender, but will carry the blue cream coloring. If you find some true blue cream girls for him, you will likely get some blue cream chicks. Best not to bring actual blue into the mix, as blue is different genetically.
If you do, all chicks will be blue or black. 😊

Thank you. I've been trying to do research about this coloring but can't find a whole lot. I did read to NOT breed blue with them. I think that confuses a lot of people because of the word blue in the coloring name. Could you breed a buff with him or no? It's next to impossible to find a blue cream or lavender hen for sale! And I'm too impatient to wait for a chick to grow up lol.

Yes you can breed him to buff. You may end up with black though that carry the blue cream as with the lavender option. Lavender birds when crossed with any other color than lavender function as black (lavender or "self blue" is a dilute of black).
This color is a work in progess. Have fun with it! 😊
