Can anybody share pics of your 1 day -1 week old blue EE? I just love them and my local pet store is getting EE pullets in soon. I want to be sure to pick blue ones but I cannot find pics of them as chicks online. Thank you for any help you have to offer :D

Easter Eggers are very interesting creatures, to be sure, because you simply can't determine adult plumage color just going on chick down. :D A grayish EE baby may turn out to be anything BUT gray! I wish there was a way to get exactly what you want.... The best advice I can give you is: buy as many as you possibly can, and see what happens! :)

If you look closely, you'll see she has ashy gray and yellow down with a black centerline. Almost no brown anywhere. This doesn't mean you can always tell but I don't believe chick color is irrelevant either.

Do you mean Blue? Some hatcheries have the Blue gene in their breeding program and others don't. Meyer and Cackle tend to produce a lot of Easter Eggers with Blue.
Yes after a bit more research, I realized I am wrong in my wording. I am looking for a blue. Thank you for clearing it up for me :)

I edited my post with the correct color, thank you :)

If possible try to locate a chick with a soft grey colour of down. I'm not 100% certain that it is the same for EE, but my Blue Cochin as a baby had the softest grey down, and she was my favorite chicken because of this; she grew up to be a pretty Blue Cochin once I learned not to put too much corn in their diet. (I was in Alaska at the time and worried about the cold.)

Except that Easter Eggers aren't usually solid Blue. It's a dilute gene for black pigment. Your Blue Cochin is actually solid black, with the blue diluting the pigment. Easter Eggers most commonly have partridge based coloring (brown with striping as chicks), and the blue won't show itself till the chick is feathered in more.

I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of chick we have. And yours looks similar. What do you think?
