Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

It is exciting! I am getting a little new flock ready for next year

I think I will have 10 new chicks or something like that. I will get pics tomorrow.

I have some three month old chicks that are already bigger than the broody hen that hatched them. I'm wondering how tall they are going to get?

They are from the Foley line if that helps any. We have only ever had hatchery birds before so not sure what their finished height is going to be. I would hate to build the coop to short. SOP gives weight but not height.

Also curious if the last picture on this thread is really a blue or is it to dark, I have a cockerel and a pullet that look like him colorwise, and one that is lighter, what I imagined "blue", to be.

Just went out and measured him, 22" at three months. Pullets are about 20", splash rumpless runt excluded. I was thicking i wanted to be at least three feet of the ground anyway.

Having another great hatch of the BLRW from Foley! Love that! All but one had hatched and it was zipping

I might should slow down and sell another set. They are hatching so well, I don't need to have TONS to winter over.

I think I am going to be moving the big BLRW outside pretty soon. They are still in the Temp Quarantine pens we made. I think I will move the SLW in the BLRW's pen when I move them outside. It is bigger and I can keep them under lights some. That will give me an opportunity to do some TRIMMING on the roo and hen.... I have 2 pullets I am going to put with him too, might get him excited again... he may have given up on the hen

I would love to see some pictures of your SLW. I have some SLW eggs in the incubator. Are all these new babies from the pair you just got recently?

I actually made 2 trips to KY. The first trip I got a pair of Breeding Pair of SLW and a Juvinile pair of BLRW (BLRW Roo and a Splash pullet I think she is about to start laying now) The SLW Hen came from a different pen than the Roo. Her eggs were fertile for 7 days and I think I have 4-5 chicks from her first eggs. Nothing since. The second trip I only got the BLRW Roo and 4 Hens and a trio of SPW too. The BLRW's their eggs were not fertile for a few days. I think he had the roos penned up. But since the first fertile egg they have almost all been fertile since. I set anywhere from 3-7 eggs at a time. Not usually a full weeks eggs..... and they are almost ALL hatching well.

Here are the SLW I got from Foley. I also have a trio of Foley Line SLW. Those are the pullets I am going to put with the SLW Roo. The Hen is molting... still, but lays an egg most everyday

These are the younger ones I hatched. These were taken a few months ago. The pullets are getting red now

Those SLW are beautiful. I can also confirm that the BLRW eggs are fertile and ship well. 5 of 6 are developing in my incubator. Woot
