Enjoy this thread, but it saddens me not to see any White Rocks. One would think they'd gone the way of the dodo bird.

Here ya go Fred I found these. They are a new set that have just started laying that Mrs. Kathy has they are from Jeremy's bunch. I borrowed this pic from another site an I don't figure Mrs. Kathy will beat me with a wet noodle too much for doing so, will this help get you a fix for a bit. LOL

I do, thats the half and half's I was referring to, I don't have pics maybe I could muster up some soon enough.

Jeremy has some of his own, gjensen has some and now Mrs, Kathy I heard got a passel of them started up too.

They are nice too I'm really liking what I'm seeing thus far. I don't know about the showing aspect but I think the utility of the breed is there or going to be there, just what these were bred -up for. Their prettiness and showmanship just so happened to come along as a bonus/side order. LOL

Jeff
Jeff---totally agree on the cross NH's...in my admittedly 'newbie to SOP' opinion, their build should beget production...meat and eggs...even my pullets' chests are broad/fleshy...noticed most look to have wide/open tails from behind too...I was hoping that the german side was going to improve this aspect of the american/GS hen stock...pleased as you are that they're easy on the eyes for being in the rather 'ugly duckling' stage too...i thought Jwhip had white dorkings, GSBR's, NH's and bantam SP Rocks...was not aware he has white variety Rocks?? perhaps they are on the 'low down' status to the general public...

at any rate, sure would not mind seeing some of those ((-;

Here ya go more of Jeremys awesomness from his farm in Nebraska I use the top picture for my screen saver x 4(4 pics of this bird covers the entire screen) it is my go to for prettiness for the day when all else fails, LOL

Ok, you guys. Well there are 7 eggs on day 12 in the Brinsea and 5 waiting to go in the 2nd Brinsea , in a day or so.
Will see how many hatch. It's hard to get the eggs while they are stil warm when collecting from the
coop in this crazy weather. I really like the way these robust chicks progress when hen raised. Next year ,
when I have more hens, I may get some silkies and have them brood Sussex eggs in addition to
my Sussex hens.
I am beginning to think I would rather have fewer chicks, hen raised...then more chicks, brooder raised.
Best,
Karen

good lord, those pullets look just about like my ringlets (and lots of others' with gsbr/ringlets for that matter) from him except painted white...looks like that male has a tail too...must say at first glance the pullets resemble wyandottes just a tad...the wide head and tail...their upper necks look a a bit less curvaceous than the ringlets too...beginning to think Jwhip has a veritable 'midas touch' with any breed/variety he works with...hmmmmm those may make the 'try out' bucket list someday. thanks Jeff for sharing!!! Wishin' I had an acreage...someday, someday

Sure would love to see new pics of Pi, Ping and Pong :)

Well, I meant back when Schilling wrote that "Knowledge" book they were just plain RIR.
But now they are what we consider "Heritage RIR because of the passage of time. Right?
I hope I got that right...
Karen

Adding the term Heritage to the name of any breed is starting to annoy me as much as SQ & fuzzy butt. They're Rhode Island Reds, not Heritage Rhode Island Reds. Some are well bred & meet the Standard description & some aren't but they're still Rhode Island Reds. There are some very poor examples of Rhode Island Reds pictured on this site with the term Heritage attached to their name. Used in that context it's a meaningless term.
Heritage, as used by the SPPA & the ALBC is a term meant to identify a class of birds, those belonging to breeds established prior to a point in history & that meet other criteria. It's not a term intended to identify a certain strain or a certain bird. On this site in particular it is so overused & improperly used as to be useless [and IMO it's not a very useful term in any context].
